TTG: Not So Monstrous
My day sucked even before George tried to eat me.
My best friend, Rojan, and I had shuttled down to the planet Kru I for an odd job. We kinda ran out of cash… But apparently these people always had work for tourists to do...
Mighty and Gracious Emperor What’s-His-Name the Third took one look at us and suddenly, I didn’t feel so great about our chances.
I mean, I knew we didn’t look like much, although, I could’ve sworn when he looked down from his sculpted sandstone throne at Rojan that he suddenly had a little more faith in the tourists that came to his planet.
Rojan just looked like someone you could trust; he had slightly rounded pale blue face with a purple cat-like Scy’ki nose, a long tufted tail almost as long as his whole body, and a short but athletic build. He was clad in a pair of khaki cargo pants, black Nike skate shoes, and a cheerful orange t-shirt bearing the Reese’s peanut butter cup logo, which was totally at odds with th

Flyspur was 100% done.
He’d been minding his own business, checking a couple articles on his info pad and sipping his tea when a soft padding sound caught his attention.
Oh, not this again…
Ludge had been tormenting Nik earlier and Flyspur suspected he was at it again.
With trails of sticky slime coating halls and making it hard for anyone to walk, all the members of the Nellie-Bell crew had known the cause of the problem.
But eventually, Nik had had enough. The Nikah’ti had run straight up to Flyspur, yanking his kinked whiskers in irritation like the galaxy’s most paranoid cat.
“Aaggh! Flyspur, will you please do something about Ludge?! He keeps sliming everything! I can’t take two steps without getting goo all over my hands, my feet, and don’t even get me started on my tail!”
Flyspur let out a chuff, running a four-fingered primary hand over the ridge of stiff purple hair running down his nose.

   HEY, Y'ALL! Tagged by :iconladydata:

    1.    If you were in a movie would you play the hero, the villain, or the side-kick?

Hmmm...probably the side-kick. The side-kicks are always the best characters, in my opinion. The hero tends to be a goody-two-shoes narcissist in my experience with heroes, which is why my main character is never a stereotypical hero. He's the unlikely hero, the one you'd never expect to do anything more than back up his more powerful and leader-like buddy. But I like the side-kicks more than the hero, usually...

    2.    What is your dream house?

Aw, maaannnn... You had to drop the hardest question on me, right? Gotcha...
Well, my dream house would be a place out in the country. It'd be a two-story with a spacious porch and wooden siding that's been tinged with black-cherry-red stain. It'd have a basement that doubles as a game room (because I'm currently obsessed with Mario Kart 8) and a place for my keyboard and guitar. The main level would be living room (with a stone fireplace, of course), kitchen, dining room, and bathroom, all decorated in a "modern rustic" style with wood and stone anywhere possible and the furniture and walls all green, blue, or dark brown. But upstairs would be two rooms; one as an art and writing room, the other my bedroom (with space for bookshelves, an aquarium, and doggie beds). In back, I'd have a huge natural pond (WITH FROGS AND FISH) and lots of pine trees.

    3.    What is your Myers-Briggs personality type?

Currently? ISFP.

    4.    What is your favorite number?

Twenty-six. Why? It's the name of the chasmosaurus on the Dinotopia series and the age of Data in Star Trek: TNG.

    5.    What is your favorite Bible verse that you can relate with? If you don’t read the Bible, then what is your favorite quote from a book or famous person?

Either Acts 20: 24, a verse I learned at the age of eight: For I do not account my life of any value, nor as precious to myself. If only I may finish my course and the ministry I have received, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." Or John 14:6 "Yeshua answered, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father except by me."

    6.    Create an acronym and show what each letter stand for. EX: T.L.C, Tender, Love, and Care

 M.E.S.S.I.A.H
Master, Emmanuel, Savior, Shepherd, I Am, Healer

    7.    Any recent books you’ve read?

The second Magnus Chase book. I will only be reading the third because of Hearthstone and Percy.

    8.    What is the last song you just heard?

Cornerstone by Hillsong

    9.    What is your pet peeve?

When people blow up over absolutely nothing.

    10.  What is your horoscope and can you relate with your horoscope’s traits?

I have no idea, nor do I care. I'm not into that astrology-type stuff.

    11. Do you believe in ghosts?

I believe that supernatural beings wander the human world, yes. Angels and demons....

    12.  What is your favorite day of the week?

Would be Wednesday, but Wednesday has been killed by extra-curriculars. So Saturday, the Sabbath.

    13.  Favorite Disney movie?

Ummm...man, that's a tough one. I really like Lilo and Stitch, but Zootopia's my favorite at the moment. The live-action Beauty and the Beast might just take Zootopia's spot.

I will also do the five character tag.

Rules

    1.    Pick 5 of your own original characters.

    2.    Give 5 facts for each of those original characters.

    3.    Simply tag 2 of your friends to do the same.

 Okie-dokie.
I know it only said five, but I will do the entire crew because I want to. I will not be tagging anybody, so if you wanna do this, be my guest.

Chris "Gadget" Martel

  1. His right arm and left leg are partially mechanical.
  2. He is terrified of rats.
  3. He is an extreme night owl, often staying up until three o'clock in the morning, which also explains why he tends to sleep in.
  4. He doesn't like chocolate.
  5. He's been known to chew the eraser off any pencil he is given (or put it behind his ear and forget that it's there)

Rojan Sparrow

  1. He is a half human, half Scyki hybrid.
    • He is allergic to peanuts
      • He has severe arachnophobia
        • He often makes up poetry, sets it to a beat, and recites it as a more sophisticated form of rap music
          • He is an excellent cook

Naomi Nakamura

  1. She is Canadian
    • She has been a vegetarian since age eleven
      • She loves to read classic Shakespeare plays that have been adapted into books
        • She carries bandages and other basic first-aid materials in her purse at all times
          • Despite being an only child, she is the most motherly of the group

Piper O'Reilly

  1. She is from Worcestershire, England
    • She is a skilled photographer and gymnast, though geology is her main passion
      • She feels that the galaxy should be explored through experiences, not just scans
        • Thunderstorms make her anxious
          • She loves mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Lanarie

  1. He is a Tankellian
    • He plays the juira and sculpts pottery.
      • His homeworld is known for their scientific curiosity, though Lanarie is more cautious than curious.
        • He is the middle child in his family.
          • His name means "close follower" in his language. (He does not speak English, so the crew must constantly use translator headsets to communicate with him.)

  • Listening to: Beloved by Jordan Feliz
  • Reading: Forbidden Sea by Shiela A. Neilson
  • Watching: Men in Black 3
  • Playing: Mario Kart 8
  • Eating: Grilled chicken and wild rice
  • Drinking: Peach Mango Kool-Aid
MS Paint is annoying, but at least I have one character completely colored from head to shirt hem....
WAZZUP, Y'ALL?!

Tagged by :iconklonvon: Dude, it's only 8:40...man, it feels late. WINTER, WHY DO YOU CURSE US WITH YOUR STUPIDLY SHORT DAYS?! :ohnoes: Well, not that that's a huge problem. I mean, I like night better anyway. I can't see the creepy neighbor kids with the nerf guns stalking around outside. ^^;

Rules:

1. Write the rules.
2. Write 13 things about yourself.
3. Answer 13 questions made by the person who tagged you, and make your own 13 questions.
4. Tag 13 deviants (only 13!)
5. Make sure they know that they are tagged.
6. Don't say ''you're tagged if you read this".
7. It is forbidden not to tag anyone.
8. Tag backs are allowed.
9. If you don't make this tag in a week, you need to obey a wish of the person who tags you.

Okay, first of all, I never follow the rules on these things, guys. All, like, five of you people that actually watch me should know that by now. Number one, I obviously followed. Duh. Two, yep. Three, yep. Four, heck no. Five, possibly. Six, kind of? Seven, erm.... Eight, yep. Nine, um, no, because that's a stupid rule and I don't follow or enforce stupid rules. So yeah. ALSO, WHAT IS IT WITH THIS TAG AND THE NUMBER THIRTEEN?!

  1. I am on the path to getting my Christian fantasy series published.

  2. I have played piano for about four non-consecutive years and picked up guitar at the end of November. I like guitar way better than piano, actually. It was the instrument that I wanted to play in the first place.

  3. I have ADD, discalculia (which is like dyslexia's mathematical cousin), and REALLY SUPER DUPER BAD ALLERGIES TO DUST AND POLLEN. And a vein in my nose that bursts every time I so much as sniffle too hard. Not a good combo, ladies and gentlemen...

  4. I am half Mexican, half Caucasian.

  5. I have a huge interest in creation science paleontology, geology, mythology, entomology, and zoology.

  6. Because I'm running out of interesting facts: My favorite chocolate bar is Andes mints. Although, I guess it's technically not a chocolate bar. It's more like those little fun-size ones that really aren't fun at all.

  7. I have a camo-patterned BB gun that I use in our makeshift backyard range. My eight-year-old sister and eleven-year-old brother both own BB guns as well. My sister's has a pink stock, while my brother's is wooden.

  8. I can use chopsticks with such ease that the kids in my foreign nutrition class were convinced I was half Chinese rather than Mexican.

  9. I learned to read at the age of three.

  10. Weird fact about my handwriting: I make my lowercase "a" and "t" just like this font.

  11. I have a penpal in Costa Rica.

  12. Star Trek: Voyager is currently my favorite show.

  13. I have dissected a crab before.

Sorry, guys. I know, I'm boring. But whatever.

1. Do you prefer warm weather or cold weather?
This question plagues me night and day... Summer is too hot, winter is too cold, spring is too rainy, but fall? Fall is perfect. So, I guess cool and breezy.

2. Who is an artist, songwriter, author, or any other creative person that you find inspiring?
Um...my entire list of people I watch? Also, TobyMac, Owl City, J.K. Rowling, Gale Carson Levine, Albert Shweitzer...

3. Do you have any pets or livestock? If so, what are they? If not, is there any kind of animal you’d like to keep?

I have one pet that is mine personally. He is a two inch long goldfish named Ichthus, which, if you were wondering, means "fish" in Greek. It's also the proper name for the so-called "Jesus fish".

4. What is one of your favorite fictional creatures?
My favorite fictional creature, huh? Either the Niffler of Harry Potter & Fantastic Beasts, the satyr of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the elves of Ella Enchanted, or the Talaxians of Star Trek: Voyager. Oh, wait...ONE of my favorites? Oh, well...it's too hard to choose!

5. Is there any character or story concept that you love so much you wish you came up with it yourself?
OH MY GOSH, SO MANYYY! Some of your guy's creations for example. Or Megamind. Or Percy Jackson.

6. Do you have any interest in making comics or animating? If so, what kind of comics or animations would you make?
I would love to be an animator! Not so much with the comics, but animation would be fun! I'd make half-hour animated episodes of Through the Galaxies. I could probably get my younger sister to play the music for me, my brother's great at sound effects, and my mom has a knack for accents.  She could come up with a slight fake accent for Rojan, though, and she has this way of making her voice high and soft, so she'd be able to play Naomi no problem. I'd have to do Gadget and Piper though.

7. Would you rather live in a single story or two story house?
Two story, definitely. I feel most at home when I'm high-up. I had a two-story house when I was about five and LOVED IT. My bedroom was upstairs, so it was my little sanctuary.

8. Do you prefer electric or gas stoves?

I don't have a preference. I'd just microwave some ramen and forget about the stove altogether...

9. What do you most want to learn to draw this year?
PEOPLE. Because I still haven't gotten full-body people down. Although, my horse-loving best friend wants me to teach her to draw, so... might have to figure out how to draw a horse...

10. Does anyone actually like sweatpants?
No. Hate them. I'll sleep in them, but I'd never be seen wearing them unless I'm sick. I'm more alert and comfortable wearing jeans.

11. What was the last movie or tv show you saw?
The last full movie I watched was Sing in theaters for my little sister's birthday.

12. Do you typically have a lot of clutter laying around, or are you the tidy sort of person?
HAHA, WHAT IS THIS "TIDY" YOU SPEAK OF?! Dude, my whole room is basically an extended closet. Stacks of paper, candy bar wrappers, socks, books, shoes, bags. All sorts of random clutter ALL OVER THE PLACE.

13. Similarly, night person or morning person?

Oh, night for sure. I love the feeling of nighttime. It's so serene, yet you can feel the energy in the air. It's the best time for bats and owls and frogs, too! Three of my favorite animals ever!

I tag: NO ONE! If you're bored and wanna do this, be my guest. Just lemme know so I can see your answers!

1. What is your favorite weather-related phenomena? (Like lightning or a rainbow.)

2. Favorite old TV show?

3. What food have you never tried?

4. Pepsi or Coke?

5. Do you wear glasses or contacts? What for, if so? (near-sightedness, reading, crossed eyes, etc.)

6. What color are your bedroom walls?

7. If you could instantly change the color of an object, what would you change?

8. Do you have allergies of any kind?

9. Least-favorite subject?

10. Worst gift you've ever recieved?

11. What's one habit that you've been called out on numerous times? (stop chewing your fingernails, don't roll your eyes, why do you run your fingers through your hair so much, etc.)

12. Hobby that you need to work on more?

13. What is one thing you wear at all times? (special necklace, friendship bracelet, glasses, jacket, etc.)

AAAND GO!

Had to do this thing for Chris, so let's see how this goes...

1) What's your name/ID number?

My name is Christopher Jason-Luther Martel, but you can call me Chris.
Nice ta meet ya! *gives a sloppy salute*

2) What's your gender?

*makes a face* Really? Well, I think my name alone is a dead giveaway, but if you're still not sure...
I'm not wearing makeup, I'm not wearing pink, my shoes don't look like torture devices, and I'm not wearing a fancy frock.

So, therefore, I'm a dude.

3) What are you exactly?

Technically, I would be called a "cyborg" in your weird terms. I would've thought that was kinda obvious, given the ring of scar tissue around my arm...

4) Can people tell that you're a cyborg/robot/android? If so, how?

Yeah, people can usually tell. Sometimes my mechanical limbs make weird noises or move in weird ways or just decide that they'd rather not work right.

5) Do you have any powers or cool attachments?

*laughs* Don't get me started. To be honest, no, not really. I mean, I guess my "bionic limbs" so-to-speak can withstand more than your average human hand and or foot could, soo...is that a power?

6) Interesting. Can you eat? If so, what's your favorite food?

HA! Can I eat? When am I not eating?! Ro says my stomach is a bottomless pit... There's no way I can choose a favorite food. But, while we're on the subject...pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, burgers, french fries, grilled cheese and tomato soup, fried green tomatoes, green bean casserole, fried chicken, roast beef, cream cheese bagels, cottage cheese and potato chips, blueberry cheesecake, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice coffee, caramel apples, caramel corn, kettle corn, pop corn, white chocolate chip cookies, root beer floats, Ale-8-One, mac-n'-cheese...

*stomach growls*

...I'll be back...it's lunch time...
7) Are you/your robotic parts functioning correctly?

Pfftt! Sure hope so. *hides his arm behind his back, grinning in a secretive way as it begins making mechanical creaking noises* Functioning correctly? Huh...well, maybe not...

8) Who's your best friend?

Rojan Sparrow. I've known him since I was, like, eleven.

9) What's your favorite color?

Blue. Duh.

10) Do you know who your creator is/who attached your robotic parts? What do you think of this person/these people?

Well, my dad, Samuel Martel, had a lot to do with my prosthetics.

What do I think of him? He's awesome. I couldn't ask for a better dad, even if he does worry endlessly about me.

And then there's my mom, who loves me unconditionally and plays with my hair for one simple reason; because she can.

She smothers me constantly and messes up my hair constantly. But she's a super nice lady and, unlike my dad, she'll actually baby me when I need it. My dad just tells me to man up and walk it off...

Parents... *shrugs* Ya gotta love 'em.

11) How many times have you/your robotic parts had a malfunction?

Lost count... Actually, never started counting, since it happens so often...

12) Where you manufactured to perform a function of some sort?
Don't think so. I mean, I could be hired as a professional klutz, but...that really doesn't seem like an opportunity that's gonna open for me any time soon... Besides, I wasn't manufactured in a factory or something. I shouldn't have a preset function. As far as I know, I was born at St. Joseph Jessamine, but who knows, my parents could've found me on their doorstep. Or maybe a stork carried me down from the sky. Wouldn't be the weirdest life-changing realization I've had....

13) Is it weird being around others of your kind?

Yeah, kinda. I glitch so often that they're always reccomending mechanics. I'm actually more comfortable around people. As in actual fully flesh-and-blood people.

14) DO YOU LIKE COOKIES?!

Cookies? Where? I mean, er...yeah. I guess so. I mean, who doesnt? I especially like my Aunt Margaret's white chocolate chip cookies, though. *stomach growls*

Dagnabbit...hungry again...

15) Are you talkative or shy?

Depends. I'm generally a pretty outgoing guy, but I have my moments... Like when I don't have anything to add or just decide to keep my thoughts to myself.

16) Where do you live?

Currently? Nowhere in particular. Kinda just...floatin' around...

17) What's your favorite season?

Oh, that'd totally hafta be fall. Seriously, man. Jackets, bonfires, leaves, cool weather, bugs, hay rides, scare crows, candy, pumpkin picking, apple picking, caramel apples, PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING! Plus Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday...

18) Do you like music? What types of music?

I like a variety of music. A little country, a lots of rock, and a whole lot of punk/pop music.

19) Do you have a family?

Oh, yeah. I got a family. A pretty good sized one, at that. *takes out his holoscreen and brings up a picture of his family. There's Dad, Mom, Anthony, Benjamin, Me, David, Eliza, Ferdi, Gianna, Heidi and our dog and cat, Mr. Sniffles and Boots.

20) Do you have a job? What's your job?

I'm the engineer of our ship, the Destiny. I really love my job, which is SO COTTONPICKIN' MUCH better than my last one...

21) Do you have any enemies?

Oh, yeah. Anthony hates me, but I like to kill him with kindness. Not because it's what Mom reccomends. Just because it's funny to watch him get mad at me when I'm not doing anything that my parents could yell at me for. That's about it...

22) Do you play any instruments?

Yeah. The guitar...a little keyboard too. I tried flute because my sister Gianna recommended it, but apparently these gorilla hands of mine don't work well with delicate instruments. I'm more of a guitarist. Heck, a harmonica would work better for me than one of those dainty little flutes.

23) What do you usually like to wear?

Weirdly enough, I'm actually pretty picky about my clothes...

Not a fan of shorts or long-sleeved shirts and I'm not too much of a jewelry guy, but I will wear my watch all the time.

I like my faux-leather jacket with the shoulder pads and cool hidden pockets.

I also like my Ale-8-One hoodie and my many t-shirts, most of 'em with a logo of some sort printed on 'em; rock bands or the Ale-8 logo or the Coca-Cola logo, or maybe even a NASA logo.

I also wear a jeans a lot; usually stonewashed black or dark blue. Oh, and maroon Converse hi-tops with straight bar laces...and my socks all have holes in 'em.

24) Do you have any object that has sentimental value?

Um...well, my goggles that I use for welding are specially designed for my eyes by my dad. So, yeah. Also that faux-leather jacket I mentioned earlier was his before he passed it down to me. I also have some pretty cool coins in my coin collection that my granddad gave to me. Then there are the things that various special people have given me. Like the heavy-duty tool set Rojan gave me for Christmas last year or the hunk of aquamarine that Piper gave me for my birthday.

(NOTE FROM HIS CREATOR: Aquamarine is his birthstone since he was born on March 1st, 2134.)

25) Where are you from?

Nicholasville, Kentucky. United States of America, Earth. Solar System Nine-One-Nine, Orion Arm, Milky Way Galaxy.

26) Do you think it's hard being an Android/Robot/Cyborg?

Um...*nervous, scoffing laugh*...not overly sure how to respond to that one.

Well, uh, let's- let's put it this way; is it hard being fully flesh-and-blood? I mean, you've never known anything other than being..well...you. Flesh and blood, bone and nerves, thoughts and dreams. General human stuff like that? I've got it all. I just happen to be missing a couple pieces.

27) Oh... Well, it was nice meeting you! Bye!

Yep. Catch ya later. *gives another sloppy salute*

Shabbat Shalom, y'all! peace sign

Since my bubby's at his dad's house, my little sister and I decided to do something fun and girly: making pink lemonade lip gloss!Pink Lemon Ade

What Ingredients You Need to Make Lip Gloss from Kool-Aid

    ·         Vaseline

    ·         Kool-Aid packets (if you wanna use the bottled powder, just scoop out two or three teaspoons)

    ·         A few empty lip balm containers (reused or bought new) (my sister and I agree that empty lipstick containers and those little Eos egg-shaped containers work best. Chap-stick ones didn’t do very well for some reason. They wouldn’t roll up like the lipstick one did.)

Step by Step Instructions to Make Kool-Aid Lip Gloss

1. Scoop out about 1/4 – 1/2 cup of Vaseline into a microwave-safe dish.

This gets messy, ladies and gents. Be prepared to be washing Vaseline off your fingers and utensils. By the way, it doesn’t have to be exactly precise. Just a couple spoonfuls should do it, but if you’re super OCD like my sister, you could still spoon the Vaseline into a measuring cup and use a spatula to scrape it out of the measuring cup and into the bowl.

2. Microwave your Vaseline in 1 minute increments – for about 4 (maybe 4 ½) minutes in order to melt it completely. Stir it every minute.

SERIOUSLY, BE CAREFUL. IT GETS REALLY HOT REALLY QUICK! By the way, my sister and I only had lemonade mix, so that’s what we used. The lemon scent and flavor was fine, but we wanted something a little rosier to tint our lips, so I found a tube of pale pink, sparkly lipstick that I was sure I wouldn’t use (when it comes to lipstick, I prefer darker colors so that I don’t have to use too much to get the color I want, plus it looks better against my bronze-colored skin). We exposed the lipstick, chopped off the visable part, and dug the rest out with a fork. Then we just added it to our Vaseline for a little extra color! So if you wanna brutally murder a tube of  lipstick in order to get your desired color, then go for it.

3. Immediately remove the melted Vaseline (and lipstick) from the Microwave and in your Kool-Aid (three to four teaspoons or just to your taste)

It needs to be hot enough to actually dissolve the Kool-Aid crystals. This is where my sister and I went wrong. It was super grainy at the bottom because we didn’t microwave it for long enough, so be sure to get it hot enough to melt the crystallized mix!

4. Carefully spoon your liquid Kool-Aid and Vaseline mix into your lip balm containers. Let it sit, either for about half an hour in the refrigerator or 1-2 hours at room temp.

We used the refrigerator method because

    A)     We’re impatient, and B) We were sure the cat or our parents would knock our containers over if we set them to harden on the counter. They were safer in the ‘fridge.

5. If your mix smells bitter, dissolve some sugar into your hot Vaseline and Kool-Aid mixture. We did not add sugar to our Kool-Aid and melted Vaseline Mix but I heard that this will sweeten the scent of your lip balm. Ours was perfectly fine except for the fact that we didn’t add enough Kool-Aid to actually scent it…and some of it was grainy…but other than that, it was okay. But if yours turns out bitter-smelling, just add a little sugar.

I just finished Star Trek: Voyager...
...hmm..
Not sure what I'm supposed to do with my life now... :XD:
Halfway through writing the second chapter of my fantasy project, Prophetess of Ardan, I realized I didn't know how long I should make the second chapter so I scrolled back up to the first chapter and checked...

And it said I was on page Seven of Nine...

Dude, Microsoft Office Word just made a Star Trek: Voyager reference...

Shabbat Shalom, y'all! peace sign

I just realized that the Doctor wasn't the only cameo in Star Trek: First Contact! The dude that played Neelix, Ethan Phillips, I think his name is, made an appearance in the holodeck scene as the random holodeck character that got scanned by the Borg.

He was clad in a pair of khaki cargo pants, black Nike skate shoes, and a cheerful orange t-shirt bearing the Reese’s peanut butter cup logo, which was totally at odds with the orange silicon bracelet around his wrist that said in bright white letters; PEANUT ALLERGIES.

Only a tuft of his dark hair could be seen because of his backwards grey baseball cap, which looked like it had seen better days. He had opted to wear his black-framed glasses instead of his contacts, but his pumpkin-pie colored eyes were still as cheerful as always behind those glasses.

Rojan’s trustworthy appearance, however, couldn’t save the Emperor from staring down at me in total disgust…

Ro bowed low, tail flicking respectfully, “Emperor, we have come with a request.”

I wasn’t used to hearing Rojan talk so formally…so I totally tuned him out.

I wasn’t actually surprised that the Emperor didn’t think much of me; with my blue Ale-8 One hoodie, my threadbare stonewashed jeans, and my shabby black-and-white high tops, I probably looked like some sort of hobo Kentuckian college kid.

Not too far off, actually.

I was taller and thinner than Rojan, which probably made me more imposing. I’ve been told that I have this look to me that makes authority figures say, “Don’t you dare.”.

Not sure what that’s supposed to mean. I mean, I don’t think I look very threatening. But hey, if messily spiked cinnamon brown hair, pale olive skin, and ice-blue eyes look threatening to you, then sure. Be scared of me.

The Emperor didn’t seem scared; just annoyed, like I was a pest that he hadn’t been looking forward to finding in his throne room.

He looked kinda like a fat, uninterested bullfrog in a bathrobe as he looked down at me, which almost made me smile.

Almost…

Rojan had stopped talking.

The Emperor was dangerously quiet. I'd tuned Ro's little proposal out, so I really didn't have any idea what would've prompted this response from our royal friend. I wondered what would happen to us if the Emperor rejected our proposal; my over-active imagination seemed to smell an opportunity and fired up, suggesting ways we could be disposed of. Just when I'd finally settled on the Emperor unrolling a long tongue and swallowing us like flies, he spoke up.

"You want job?" He boomed in a deep voice. His accent sounded vaguely Russian, "Fine. I give you job."

Next thing I knew, we were in the pest control business

***

“So…lemme get this straight…” I said as we left the court, “just to make sure I heard Emperor Bullfrog right.”

Rojan glanced around like he was afraid a mob of angry civilians would start chasing us with pitchforks and torches. Wouldn’t be the first time…

“His royal majesty wants us,” I pointed at Rojan, then at myself, “ a pilot who is a legal citizen of both Scy’kir III and Earth and an android engineer,"I jerked a thumb at a nearby shop, “to take care of an animal that’s been stealing from markets and trinket shops?!”

“Uhhh….yeah?”

“Fantastic.”

Rojan and I wandered into a canyon. The entire planet was basically just a dusty plain of nothing. Except for their extensive inventory of canyons and caves, that is. Evidently their thief had been hiding in a nearby cave and coming out at night to browse the local small businesses.

Eventually, Rojan and I came upon a huge cave in the canyon wall. It was easily 48 feet tall and almost as wide, a little less than eight times my height.

Then we saw it; the so-called pest that we’d been hired to get rid of.

The monster roared, showing a bright red maw and a set of long, pointy bloodstained teeth, obviously because he’d forgotten to brush them after his appetizer. From the look of it, I guessed we’d be his main course.

He charged us with incredible force and speed, jaws dripping goo.

With a slashing motion of my wrist I threw my force field from its emitter clasped like a bracelet around my arm. I winced as the creature barreled into it, stopping suddenly as he smashed is muzzle into the field.

He recovered from his shock quickly and was attacking us again, head butting the field over and over again in an attempt to get through to Rojan and me hiding behind it.

The field held every time he crashed into it. With each head butt, it made warped sound, deflecting each blow. Ripples of energy spread out from where the monster hit it, absorbing force and pressure effortlessly.

Unfortunately for me, I started feeling a little cocky at this point…

“Whoa…sorry, big guy. But…we kinda need to get some stuff back and possibly dispose of you so…” I paused, “Ya know what? You look like a George. Can I call you George?”

Rojan, who’d been cowering behind me moments before, looked at me like he was questioning my sanity.  “George?”

“Yeah,” I decided, “George.”

The monster growled from his mid-head-butt position. Obviously, he didn’t like my nickname for him.

But he’d just willingly collided with a force field.

He had some obvious judgment issues, so I wasn’t really trusting his opinion all too much…

Then again, George was massive; I’m talking three-times-bigger-than-a-polar bear massive, here.

He looked pretty scary, too.

He had a thick burnt orange hide, patterned with green and yellow dots. A ridge of light brown fur ran from the top of his brutish bald jackal-like head to the middle of his back. I didn’t wanna focus too much on the rest of him, but he kinda looked like a mutant lizard-hyena with a super long barbed tail, muscular dog-like legs and gigantic claws. His four tiny, but piercing, toxic yellow eyes were fixed on me with obvious hatred.

“What’re you lookin’ at, ugly?” I snapped.

George backed up, tail whipping back and forth as he did. He pawed the ground like a bull about to charge.

He sprinted for us at full speed.

“Okay, if you’re sure about this. But you’re gonna have one heck of a migraine after this, man…”

I held my ground waiting for the impact. Unfortunately, the impact was pretty…impactful. The force of the collision threw me backwards and straight into Rojan.

We rolled over each other several times before coming to a complete stop.  I felt Rojan pushing my back urgently.

“Gadget! You’re gonna get us both killed! Get off!”

I got up as quickly as possible. George clawed the ground again, leaving deep gashes that probably wouldn’t buff out.

I could only wonder what he’d do to Rojan and me…

“Uh-oh…” I said.

George charged again.

I was proud of the way we reacted in unison, mentally walking ourselves through a step-by-step plan and  executing that plan as effortlessly as a highly-trained military unit.

We watched the monster barrel toward us for a count of five, then slowly turned on our heels and ran for our lives.

We ran in a V, Rojan running to the left, me to the right, both of us hoping that the monster would be too confused to follow.

I glanced behind just in time to see George slam on the breaks to contemplate which of us would be tastier.

Hmmm…walking metal toothpick or fleshy hybrid?

No surprise, he picked the meatier of us.

In other words, Rojan.

Luckily, Ro a fast runner. But he noticed the deadly alien monster on his tail (almost literally), stopped, and slipped into a tiny gap in between the walls of the canyon.

George tried to fit a massive paw into the gap to pull Rojan out. I watched in horror for a moment, scared stupid.

I decided that if one of us had to be eaten for the other to live, I’d rather it be me.

So I sprinted toward the monster like a valiantly stupid knight in threadbare hand-me-downs, scooped up a handful of rocks and hurled one at George’s head.

“Hey, stupid!”

The rock bounced harmlessly off his skull, but he looked at me in outrage like, “Do you have a death wish?!”

I shooed Rojan away with a hand, keeping my eyes on George. I’m not sure if Rojan got the message.

I was kinda too busy running for my life…

TTG: Not So Monstrous
Running low on money, the engineer and pilot of the Destiny, Christopher "Gadget" Danniels and Rojan Sparrow, have shuttled down to Kru I in search of an odd job or two. But when their odd job gets out of hand, the two must work together with a newfound friend to right a wrong.

NOT COMPLETE! This was going to be my entry for the recent contest, but due to circumstances I missed the deadline and didn't shorten this thing down to the maximum 1,000 words. So I'll put it in here anyway...

Shabbat Shalom, people!

So, I couldn't enter :iconrebel-rider: 's contest in The Bible Amid Worlds unfortunately, for various reasons... Namely, my computer went kaput for about five days after my cord melted because it overheated and the wires inside snapped, so I couldn't charge my darned computer. Yay. But my awesome parents ordered me a new one and didn't even freak out when I told them I'd killed the old one. So that's greaaattt...

Plus the day of entry for the contest was my dad's birthday, which meant we went out to eat at Applebee's and I didn't have time to finish my entry. All in all, I'm not overly upset that I didn't get to enter the contest. There'll be plenty of other contests to enter.

But, just for the heck of it, I'll be posting my entry later today, 'CAUSE WHY NOT?!

Anywayyyy... yup.

See y'all later!

Through the Galaxies

Sadly, nothing too exiting here. I've recently changed Gadget's hair from being messy and in his face, to spiked up. He has a habit of running his fingers through his hair, which causes it to stick up.

Plus, for most of his life, his job kinda requires him to be able to see, so he needs hair that isn't gonna blind him while he's soldering something...

Other than that he's pretty much the same; tall and lean, long, bulky hands and feet, a heart-shaped face, round icy blue eyes, gingerbread brown hair, cream-colored skin, a long Nixon nose, teeth with a slight gap in them. Wears a grey NASA t-shirt under a leather jacket, black stonewashed jeans, and a pair of worn-out Converse high-tops.

He also wears a necklace; black leather with a square knot in the middle, two nuts on either side (as in nuts and bolts type of nuts) and a knot next to the outside nut to keep it all in place.

I might be re-doing On the Verge, which means most of these chapters are complete trash now. :P Sorry...

Fantasy Work-in-Progress
I've begun the development of the main characters in my fantasy story which has yet to be named. Here's a quick line-up:

Samantha Abigail Grace is an Ohioan girl around the age of fourteen. She has wavy golden-blonde hair, tan skin with lightly freckled cheeks and shoulders, and brown eyes. Her typical outfit is a baseball style teal half-sleeve shirt with grey sleeves, collar, and pocket over the left side of the chest, a necklace shaped like a snowflake, a pair of blue jeans, and a pair of grey sneakers with white and teal soles. She's very upbeat and determined, somewhat of a perfectionist, and eager-to-please with a very strong love of animals. At the age of thirteen, she was diagnosed with stage three stomach cancer shortly after her mother died. She hates hospitals because of this and much prefers being outside on her family's farm. Her weapon of choice is a silver dagger.

Juniper Aspen Hawthorn is an elf of about 15 who lives in Ardan, the world above ours. He has curly ebony hair, tan skin, a wide, flat nose, and evergreen eyes. He usually wears a black hoodie, a recycle t-shirt (or a souvenir shirt from Aspen, Colorado), khakis, and a pair of white shoes with four thick black lines on the sides. He's somewhat of a realist, with very logical and straightforward ideas. He's very blunt and never sarcastic. He can be harsh and often jumps to conclusions without thinking, although he always has good intentions. Aspen's magic was taken away from him when he healed someone that he shouldn't have and he now works as a "part-time human sitter", in his words. He's a very good short-range shot with a bow, but his arrows almost always veer to the right when he's shooting long-range.

"Leo" Atticus Parker is what most people call a special case. He regularly drops into Ardan from the human world and vise versa. He's a healthy weight and fairly tall for the age of eighteen, with messy brown curtained hair, amber eyes, a pointed nose, and a lightly tanned complexion. He usually wears a brown pull-over hoodie over a burnt orange t-shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of hiking boots. He also wears a leather necklace with a small amber bead strung on it. His parents were extremely rich people, but their son not so much. His parents disowned him after he embarrased them and tarnished their reputation. He now lives on the streets. He hates his actual first name and typically goes by Leo (or sometimes Parker) instead.

Shabbat Shalom, y'all.

So, I've been exploring a new set of characters. No guarantee as to if I'll continue it...

But here's the plot line so far.

A teenage girl with Cancer is illegally healed by an elf whose powers have been bestowed by King Melich. Because she's been touched by magic outside of her world's the girl must live and work in a world that overlaps hers, called Ardan.

This won't have any voodoo magic, folks. No wizards or sorcery. The elves and other magical creatures, including Melich, are symbols. Even Ardan itself is symbolic.

The elves and other creatures are angels. Melich is God. Ardan is a mix of heaven and Eden.

Lots of Christian symbols in it. :D

But I need help with my elf's name.

I imagine him being about 5'10" with semi-long curly hair about the color of Redwood bark.

His hands have suction pads like a frog's and his ears are pointed. He has typical Caucasian-color skin that lightens in winter and darkens in summer. He has mottled brown spots like a frog's running from his shoulder blades, down his spine to the middle of his back. He also has them on the back of his hands, on his shoulders, and a little at the jaw.

His eyes are Evergreen colored.

He wears a brown hoodie with a green shirt peeking out at the neckline, a pair of cutoff denim shorts, and sandals. At least in summer...

I was thinking something like one of these for his name:

Juniper (Nip)
Spruce
Aspen
Kale
Reed
Sage

Aaand...maybe one of these for a last name?
Holly
Larkspur
Hawthorn
Wren
Sequoia
Hazel

Anybody have any suggestions?

(Might have finally decided on Juniper Aspen Hawthorn...)

      • She feels that the galaxy should be explored through experiences, not just scans
        • Thunderstorms make her anxious
          • She loves mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Lanarie

  1. He is a Tankellian
    • He plays the juira and sculpts pottery.
      • His homeworld is known for their scientific curiosity, though Lanarie is more cautious than curious.
        • He is the middle child in his family.
          • His name means "close follower" in his language. (He does not speak English, so the crew must constantly use translator headsets to communicate with him.)
