Shabbat Shalom, y'all! peace sign

Since my bubby's at his dad's house, my little sister and I decided to do something fun and girly: making pink lemonade lip gloss!:bademoticon:

What Ingredients You Need to Make Lip Gloss from Kool-Aid

    ·         Vaseline

    ·         Kool-Aid packets (if you wanna use the bottled powder, just scoop out two or three teaspoons)

    ·         A few empty lip balm containers (reused or bought new) (my sister and I agree that empty lipstick containers and those little Eos egg-shaped containers work best. Chap-stick ones didn’t do very well for some reason. They wouldn’t roll up like the lipstick one did.)

Step by Step Instructions to Make Kool-Aid Lip Gloss

1. Scoop out about 1/4 – 1/2 cup of Vaseline into a microwave-safe dish.

This gets messy, ladies and gents. Be prepared to be washing Vaseline off your fingers and utensils. By the way, it doesn’t have to be exactly precise. Just a couple spoonfuls should do it, but if you’re super OCD like my sister, you could still spoon the Vaseline into a measuring cup and use a spatula to scrape it out of the measuring cup and into the bowl.

2. Microwave your Vaseline in 1 minute increments – for about 4 (maybe 4 ½) minutes in order to melt it completely. Stir it every minute.

SERIOUSLY, BE CAREFUL. IT GETS REALLY HOT REALLY QUICK! By the way, my sister and I only had lemonade mix, so that’s what we used. The lemon scent and flavor was fine, but we wanted something a little rosier to tint our lips, so I found a tube of pale pink, sparkly lipstick that I was sure I wouldn’t use (when it comes to lipstick, I prefer darker colors so that I don’t have to use too much to get the color I want, plus it looks better against my bronze-colored skin). We exposed the lipstick, chopped off the visable part, and dug the rest out with a fork. Then we just added it to our Vaseline for a little extra color! So if you wanna brutally murder a tube of  lipstick in order to get your desired color, then go for it.

3. Immediately remove the melted Vaseline (and lipstick) from the Microwave and in your Kool-Aid (three to four teaspoons or just to your taste)

It needs to be hot enough to actually dissolve the Kool-Aid crystals. This is where my sister and I went wrong. It was super grainy at the bottom because we didn’t microwave it for long enough, so be sure to get it hot enough to melt the crystallized mix!

4. Carefully spoon your liquid Kool-Aid and Vaseline mix into your lip balm containers. Let it sit, either for about half an hour in the refrigerator or 1-2 hours at room temp.

We used the refrigerator method because

    A)     We’re impatient, and B) We were sure the cat or our parents would knock our containers over if we set them to harden on the counter. They were safer in the ‘fridge.

5. If your mix smells bitter, dissolve some sugar into your hot Vaseline and Kool-Aid mixture. We did not add sugar to our Kool-Aid and melted Vaseline Mix but I heard that this will sweeten the scent of your lip balm. Ours was perfectly fine except for the fact that we didn’t add enough Kool-Aid to actually scent it…and some of it was grainy…but other than that, it was okay. But if yours turns out bitter-smelling, just add a little sugar.
